Passing Darkness Synopsis/Script

LOGLINE: A skilled martial artist must protect her young daughter from dark forces that threaten not just their lives, but her sanity.

It begins innocently enough –- athletic young mother ELAINE WAYS (Debra Hopkins, Poker Run, Parker, "Melrose Place", "Karen Sisco") preparing dinner for her 10-year-old daughter SAMANTHA (Danielle Reneé Fazio). But it soon becomes clear that all is not well in their world. Something has happened to "Daddy"... something Elaine is desperately trying to forget, without much success.

Then a cryptic phone call from a mysterious couple (Andrea Thompson, "NYPD Blue", "JAG", "24" and the late Don S. Davis, "Stargate SG-1", "The X-Files", "Twin Peaks") shatters the façade and it becomes apparent that Elaine is hiding out, paranoid. But why?

As tensions escalate, Elaine begins seeing visions of a man in her apartment, whom we soon come to realize is the
apparition of her dead husband DEREK (Gerald Hopkins, Blood Deep, Pentathalon, "General Hospital"). His appearance foreshadows the arrival of dark forces that descend upon the place, forcing Elaine to take up her sword and defend against them.

Highly skilled in the martial arts, she quickly dispatches two intruders and moves out onto the rooftop terrace to confront a third. But this time is not so easy as she seems to be fighting her own destiny as well as a skilled, sinister opponent.

Eventually she wins out and takes him down, only to be confronted by a new reality that makes her question her very sanity and ultimately, her reason to live. Perched on the razor’s edge between death or redemption, her only salvation lies in the embodiment of husband Derek, and a surprise connection to little Samantha who, it turns out, has been trying to help her all along.
