Such is the ability of 10-year-old Samantha DuPrea and other children involved in the Darkness Project; a covert government experiment in communicating with the dead, utilizing children with this unique ability to ‘project their essence’ as portals to the other side.
Based on the multi-award-winning short film Passing Darkness, the Dramatic Series version, a kind of “Ghost Whisperer” meets “The X-Files” and “Supernatural” in the Afterlife, finds this government project headed by young Samantha’s mother Jessica (played by Andrea Thompson in the film, but think Natasha Henstridge or Carla Gugino for the series) and partner Will Parsons (Don S. Davis in the movie; William Petersen or Joel Gretsch-type for the series). Their mission: to investigate and solve violent/sudden deaths by extracting information from the spirits of the victims, who are stuck in a kind of purgatory -- a dark place between the living and Beyond -- and in the process help those troubled souls pass on...
while also trying to fulfill an ancient spiritual prophecy and stop a malevolent force from punching back through to our side to destroy all human souls on Earth.
