On the heels of our short film successes and a recently completed rewrite, this supernatural thriller formerly titled Dreamland is finally heading into production as our next feature film. Actor Don S. Davis (Stargate SG-1, Passing Darkness, The X-Files) has agreed to join the cast as our first talent attachment, with more key roles soon to be announced. Writer-Director Mader has re-teamed with illustrator Don Anderson to begin the design process and storyboarding of the film, and producer Flo Speakman has joined the project to help raise financing and assist in packaging. Watch this space for further updates as we move closer to principal photography slated for later this year or early '08. PASSING DARKNESS feature now in development! The completion of the DEEP FOCUS script has opened up the opportunity to put the PASSING DARKNESS feature into full development, and the screenplay is shaping up quite nicely. Using the award-winning short film as a springboard, the story follows lead character Elaine on a journey into a dark underworld as she attempts to rescue a kidnapped young Samantha from te clutches of a dark otherworldly presence. Mader wins approval at networks and studios! The past few months have been very exciting... and very busy. Thanks to agent Jo-Ann Carol at the Monterio Rose Dravis Agency getting our award-winning short film PASSING DARKNESS into the hands of executives throughout the industry, Kenneth Mader has now been approved by Execs as a director at numerous major television networks and studios! It is only a matter of time before an episodic television directing assignment comes his way as we wait for slots to open up. Watch this space for more info as things proceed. CARNIVORE premieres on Sci Fi Channel! Well folks, after years in video release our little cult movie Carnivore finally hit the big time and premiered on the Sci Fi Channel. Amazing. This truly has become 'the little movie that could'. Much thanks to Seth Kittay of All Channel Films, our rep who made the deal happen, and Ray Canella at Sci Fi for acquiring the picture. Too cool! CARNIVORE sequel now in accelerated development! Given the recent acquisition of the original by Sci Fi Channel, we are now redoubling our efforts to get a sequel made. Actually, more of a 're-imagining' of the franchise. As such, writer-director Mader has recruited screenwriter Shelley Stuart to help pen the new script, which they will co-write together over the next couple of months and begin attaching talent. NEWS ARCHIVES: BLIND LUCK complete! Post-production is complete on our latest short film BLIND LUCK, a romantic comedy starring Michael Sorvino and Jody Arensberg (who also wrote and produced). Jody previously worked with us on the micro-short FATHER'S DAY, which recently premiered at the Seattle Jewish Film Festival. Another high-end short film intended for the festival circuit, BLIND LUCK was shot using the Panavision HD CineAlta camera over five grueling days in early June '06. It looks great, and is sure to generate significant buzz around the festival circuit this year. PASSING DARKNESS wins major awards, festival selections! Best Short Film! Best Actress! Best Supporting Actress! Best Editing! All at the 2005 Movienation Film Festival in Las Vegas last fall. It was quite an experience, and literally the first festival we screened in. What a way to begin, as an award-winning film right out of the box! Since then we have been an Official Selection in six other fests: Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival, the California Independent Film Festival, ION Film Festival, Shockerfest, the Spiritual Film Festival and the Mumbai International Film Festival in India. And we continue to submit, so more festivals are pending. Watch this space for further updates. PASSING DARKNESS now complete! What began its life as a martial arts action scene for an actor's demo reel has evolved into a high-end short film version of a feature now in development! Shot in Super-35mm full widescreen format January 2005, Passing Darkness features ANDREA THOMPSON of NYPD Blue fame and DON S. DAVIS from Stargate SG-1 & The X-Files, who turned in wonderful performances alongside lead actress DEBRA HOPKINS, supporting actor GERALD HOPKINS, and brilliant 11-year-old ingenue DANIELLE RENEE FAZIO. The footage looks beautiful after an amazing crew worked tirelessly to capture 114 setups over a four-day period for director Mader, who has just completed editing the picture and mixing the soundtrack with an incredible score by composer ALAN DERIAN. FATHER'S DAY wins Festival Premier! The short film Father's Day directed by Mr. Mader for writer-producer JODY ARENSBERG was recently selected for competition in the Seattle Jewish Film Festival. A touching piece about a granddaughter's journey home featuring Ms. Arensberg and BARBARA KERR CONDON, it will mark the film's premier festival screening in early '06. Stargate SG-1's MICHAEL SHANKS joins cast of DEAD STOP. Producer Julie Caitlin Brown has been working tirelessly to attach talent and shop this anthology film developed by Mr. Mader with partners Marc Scott Zicree & Emmy-Winner Michael Reaves. After landing the incredible JOHN RHYS-DAVIES for a role in Mr. Reaves' segment, she recently brough the script to MICHAEL SHANKS who agreed to play one of the lead roles, joining Star Trek's ROBERT PICARDO and ARMIN SHIMERMAN who were already attached. Stay tuned for more news and updates as this exciting project heats up. ZALI'S CRUSH being shopped. Developed with actor-writer Maura Barclay (most recently seen co-starring on The West Wing and Starz-Encore's Force of Action interstitials) Zali's Crush is a smart, character-based psychological thriller about a troubled young woman who falls for a serial killer that lives across the hall. With name actors attached to the project such as The Wonder Years' DAN LAURIA and Buffy the Vampire Slayer's ARMIN SHIMERMAN, the project is now making the rounds to various studios and production entities in search of a deal. Carnivore sequel being considered at major cable network! A completely revamped sequel to our cult hit is now being seriously considered for production by a major cable network. We can't yet say who, but if the deal happens you can be certain we'll announce it here. Dreamland screenplay undergoing major rewrite. In an effort to get Dreamland into production next year, Mr. Mader has launched into a page-one rewrite of the script to address numerous notes he's received as well as pare it down into a more doable indie film. More to come as this progresses. Carnivore kicks butt on pay-per-view and is picked up by Fox! This past year saw Carnivore do incredibly well on both TVN and iN Demand pay-per-view services, where it has acheived an up to 52% buy rate, compared to an average 5-8% for other movies, and it was picked up by Fox Home Entertainment, who released a trimmed-down version of the DVD (sans extras) to stores such as WalMart, Target and Suncoast. This after enjoying much success in its initial domestic home video release, with up to 12 copies on the shelves of Hollywood Video stores nationwide, and international sales to territories such as Germany, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and The Arabian Gulf. A pay cable deal is pending, and we're continuing to market the film internationally, so watch this space for updates on the never-ending Carnivore Saga. Music Video hits Top Ten on national CVC rock charts! Director Mader's recent work for Dark Star Records' heavy metal band Slave Driver paid off in a big way last summer as the video he shot and directed for their song "Mother Mary" hit the Top Ten on the national CVC rock charts. Included on the Official Carnivore Soundtrack CD which was also released last summer, the video can be seen on network and local broadcasts from coast-to-coast. That's all for now.
